1. Pre-operative consultancy
The various steps involved in the laser treatment are discussed individually
with the patient in a pre-operative consultancy.
2. Preparation for treatment
Following a thorough ophthalmic examination the patient is prepared for the
brief operation. Appropriate eyedrops allow for easy local anesthetization
of the eye.
3. The operation itself
The first step involved in the actual laser treatment is the removal of the
protective layer of the cornea (PRK method). The patient can feel virtually
nothing. Following this, the excimer laser is used to treat the visual defect.
This procedure only takes a few minutes.
4. Post-operative treatment
Following the operation, therapy contact lenses are used. The patient can
generally go about his or her usual business after one to two days.
